What should I do if the insurance company offers me a check right away?

Return to Video FAQs

The short answer? Do not take it.

Insurance companies will try to settle claims directly with you if they know you are not represented by a lawyer. Typically, they will not offer you full compensation for the claim. Once you accept the check and sign a release, there is no further compensation you can receive. That’s why it’s important to seek counsel immediately and let your lawyers, us, negotiate with the insurance company for your injuries.
