Marketing & Communications Manager
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Type: Hybrid
Salary: 85,000 - 100,000
About the Firm
At van der Veen, Hartshorn and Levin, you'll find Philadelphia's most formidable legal minds, where vast experience meets a fierce passion for justice. Our attorneys are nationally recognized, frequently featured in print and television media, and trusted with the complex, high-stakes cases where the outcome matters most. We're the voice of the injured and a strong advocate for the accused, and we're looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager to help tell that story, day in and day out, across every channel where it matters.
Role Overview
This role owns the firm's marketing execution, including, content, social, blog, and media coordination. You will work closely with firm leadership and outside partners to raise the level of strategic planning behind it. You'll be the primary point of contact for day-to-day marketing needs across the firm, working directly with attorneys, firm leadership, and outside vendors.
This is a highly autonomous role. We're looking for someone who can take a general direction and run with it, not someone who needs to be told what to do next.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow the firm's content calendar across practice areas, personal injury and criminal defense, including blog publishing cadence and social media presence
- Coordinate with attorneys to source content, story ideas, and thought leadership pieces that reflect the firm's track record and personalized approach to representation
- Oversee day-to-day work with outside marketing/digital vendors, including performance tracking
- Support event coordination, sponsorships, and coverage of attorneys' charitable and community involvement
- Track and report on marketing performance and make recommendations for improvement
- Maintain brand consistency across all firm materials, digital presence, and communications, ensuring messaging reflects the firm's reputation for high-caliber, human-centered advocacy
- Handle sensitive and high-profile matters with discretion, given the nature of the firm's caseload and public profile
Qualifications
- 4–6 years of experience in marketing, communications, or business development, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment (legal background preferred, not required)
- Strong writing, editing, and project management skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal oversight
- Comfortable working directly with senior leadership and managing external vendor relationships
- Experience with content platforms, social media management, and basic performance analytics
- Ability to maintain professional standards of confidentiality, tact, and discretion
What We're Looking For
- A proactive self-starter who identifies what needs to get done and does it
- Someone who can operate independently while staying aligned with firm priorities
- A strong communicator who can work comfortably with attorneys and firm leadership
- Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can juggle competing deadlines
- Interest in building something more structured, not just maintaining what already exists
