The world today looks nothing like it did just a few short months ago. It goes without saying that so much has drastically changed, and that includes the legal profession. Platforms such as Zoom and Skype have seamlessly replaced in-person meetings, allowing attorneys and clients to continue to maintain that same personal and trusted relationship. Likewise, arbitrations, mediations and depositions are being held virtually, thereby avoiding delays in litigating cases. Moreover, many Pennsylvania counties are allowing video conferencing to apply for a marriage license and probate a will. Even notaries, through Act 15 signed into law on April 20th, are temporarily able to remotely notarize documents. These are but a few examples of the many ways in which technology has altered the legal landscape in response to this pandemic.
