August 22, 2025

On Sunday, August 24, 2025, we hope you’ll join us at the 3rd Annual Backpack & School Supplies Giveaway held in honor of Fanta Bility, who was tragically killed when law enforcement opened fire at a high school football game she was attending with her family.

The Fanta Bility Foundation Gives Back to Those in Need

The Fanta Bility Foundation is proud to host the 3rd Annual Backpack & School Supplies Giveaway. The event, which is hosted by Fanta’s family, will be giving away backpacks filled with school supplies for children and families in need.

Attendees are encouraged to wear either pink or purple, Fanta’s favorite colors. The giveaway, which will be held at Sharon Hill Elementary School in Pennsylvania at 2:00 p.m., is free to attend. Water ice and pretzels will be provided. For families attending, please note that your child must be present to receive a backpack.

The Fanta Bility Foundation was founded on January 15, 2023, which would have been her 10th birthday. It is run by her mother, Tenneh Kromah and her cousin, Siddiq Kamara with the purpose of sharing Fanta’s legacy and advocating for better police training and safety measures.

About Fanta’s Tragic Passing

This backpack event is commemorating the 4th anniversary of Fanta’s tragic passing. On August 27, 2021, Sharon Hill police officers fired into a crowd in an apparent response to a gunfight and fatally wounded Fanta as she was walking with her mother. The officers fired 25 shots in the direction of a black Chevy Impala. The officers believed the shot came from the Impala. Fanta and many other spectators were walking nearby when the officers fired.

The tragic incident led to the arrest of the three officers involved, who all pleaded guilty to charges of reckless endangerment and are currently serving five years probation. Fanta’s Law, which would require law enforcement to take a firearms training course four times a year, is currently under consideration in the State House.

The backpack giveaway honors Fanta’s incredible charitable and selfless spirit. According to her loved ones, she was known for continually sharing her food and clothes with friends, including those around her Sharon Hill neighborhood.

Fanta’s story and this upcoming event remains very close to our hearts. Following an $11 million settlement obtained by the family’s attorney, Michael van der Veen, Fanta’s loved ones have continued to keep her beautiful legacy alive by advocating for significant improvements in safety training for the Sharon Hill Police Department. As part of the settlement, the borough agreed to create a Citizen’s Advisory Board to oversee the hiring and training of police officers, as well as require all officers to undergo deadly use of force training.

We are proud to have played a role in helping to implement these new policy changes so a tragedy like this doesn’t happen again.

Having had the opportunity to know Fanta’s family and learn about the things she loved, including spending time with friends, riding her bike, listening to Billie Eilish, and getting dressed up, we are deeply saddened by the reckless actions of the Sharon Hill police officers that took her life. We continue to celebrate and honor Fanta’s life and the impact she made on everyone who knew her.

Our firm hopes you’ll join us at this backpack giveaway. Don’t forget to wear purple or pink for Fanta, and if you can, also stop by the Fanta Bility Memorial Playground, which was renamed in her honor earlier this year.
